Code Red Robotics 2023 Build Update:

The team is now in build season for the new game "Charged Up" presented by Haas.  The design teams are hard at work creating prototypes while the other subteams organize and perform crucial tasks such as programming the robot, machining the game and strategizing for matches. This blog will be updated as needed to reflect ongoing developments. Thank you to our sponsors! If you want to get a better understanding of the game you can watch the game animation below.

Hey Code Red,

For the past week all the teams have been working hard to finish the final designs of their systems and get parts manufactured.

Machining has been working hard to finish all parts for the different subteams. They are almost finished and plan to be done by the end of the day Tuesday.

Assembly team has gotten the majority of the indexer assembled and mounted on the drive train and the climbing winch mounted as well. They are working on getting the axles and rollers installed on the indexer.

Shooting finished their last drawing Saturday night. Now all they have to do is the math to determine the flywheel they need to use.

Acquisition is working on their last few drawings but they are ready to start assembling once parts are made.

Climbing is currently assembling and testing their system.

Hey Code Red,

This past week design teams have been working on finishing designs and getting drawings made so their parts can be machined. Early next week all drawings should be released and final CAD finished. By the end of next week all parts should be machined and design teams will be working on assembling their final systems.

The programming sub team has been working on drivetrain, shooter and indexer code and has been testing some code on the kitbot.

Hey Code Red,

Today was the end of week 2 and the team has made great progress so far.

Assembly and machining were able to complete the frame today and gearboxes and chains should be added on Tuesday when we come back to build.

Acquisition worked on testing different wheel compressions and roller placement.

Indexer has finished their CAD and is now working with Acquisition and Shooter to figure out where they will be mounting.

Shooting found the two angles they need to set the shooter to in order to shoot from the triangle and further back.

Climber is currently working on fitting the winch in the final assembly, working out problems with the lift CAD and figuring out mechanical detachment options for their hooks. They were able to finish the latch design and their current system is 11lbs not counting the lift mount and winch mount.

Best,

Hey Code Red,

Currently everyone is working towards accomplishing to goals that are posted on the board in E16.

Yesterday indexer began figuring out how they are going to be mounting to the frame.

Climber worked with indexer to figure out how they are going to be mounting together. Also they got the lift CAD almost done, the hook pivot attached to the lift but are still working on the latch for the hook, and the winch CAD was finished.

Acquisition tested their prototype and are currently testing compression ratios and roller spacing.

The visions team began integrating the code for the different systems and started troubleshooting problems.

Machine team started building frame and should be done by the end of Friday. The entire frame should be assembled by the end of the day Saturday.

Hey Code Red,

For the past week the different design teams have been working on designing their systems and building prototypes. Yesterday there was a general design meeting where we went over what each design team had learned and then as a team fit the different systems together to get a general idea of where each system will fit.

Today the shooter and indexer prototypes were mounted together and tested and we were able to shoot balls reliably into the high goal from like 6 ft away and we got one ball into the inner goal from the edge of the triangle. There was also a lot of testing done with the ball acquisition and they are currently waiting for 3D printed wheels in order to have a more realistic test.

Also the climbing team had a great discussion about what type of climber they will be going for. Over the next week they will be figuring out the specifics of their system and building a prototype.

The frame was also finalized today and the drawings to start manufacturing have been started so on Monday or Tuesday machine team can start making frame.

The control systems team has been able to accurately map our distance and angle to the goal. Also they have gotten the color sensor for the control panel to work.

On Monday we will be having a quick team meeting to just recap what is going on with each subteam and system, then will be breaking up into different teams and continuing the good work that has been happening.

Best,
Emily Klaben
